LASIK Co-Management Q & A

What is LASIK?

LASIK is refractive laser surgery that corrects vision problems, including:

Myopia, or nearsightedness, means your distance vision is blurry but you can see well close up. It’s the most common of all refractive errors, affecting about half of all Americans.

Hyperopia, or farsightedness, means you have good distance vision but blurry close-up vision.

Astigmatism means either a distorted eye lens shape (lenticular astigmatism) or an irregular cornea shape (corneal astigmatism). Both lead to blurry vision at all distances.

LASIK corrects these refractive errors to 20/40 vision or better in a remarkable 99% of those who undergo the surgery. In most cases, this means you can see well without eyeglasses or contacts after the surgery.

How does a LASIK co-management evaluation work?

If you’re interested in LASIK, the first step is an evaluation with Dr. Aimee Noll, OD. During your LASIK co-management evaluation, Dr. Noll performs an eye exam and discusses your needs with you.

To get LASIK, you must meet a few qualifications.

Treatable prescription range

The treatable prescription range is up to +6 diopters farsightedness, up to 6 diopters of astigmatism, or up to -12.00 diopters of nearsightedness.

Unchanged prescription

To qualify for LASIK, you need a stable prescription. This generally means no prescription changes for a minimum of two years.

Healthy eyes

During your eye exam, Dr. Noll screens for problems like dry eyes, cataracts, keratoconus, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and other eye disorders and diseases. This may include retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans, and other special tests.

What happens during LASIK co-management?

Just as with cataract surgery co-management, Dr. Noll refers you to an ophthalmologist — a medical doctor who performs eye surgery — for your LASIK surgery. After your LASIK surgery, you’ll see Dr. Noll for all follow-up appointments.

Dr. Noll can guide your LASIK recovery and help you enjoy the smoothest transition into living glasses-free. She’s available to answer any and all questions about LASIK, both before and after your surgery.

LASIK co-management is easy with an experienced eye doctor like Dr. Noll on your side. Book your appointment by phone or through online scheduling now.
