Understanding the
Cause Dry Eye

Healthy tears contain a balance of water, oil, and mucus. The meibomian glands in the eyelids produce the oils that help prevent tears from evaporating too quickly. When these glands become blocked or inflamed, a condition known as meibomian gland dysfunction, or MGD, can develop.

Dry eye symptoms often include:

Burning, stinging, or gritty sensations

Red or irritated eyes

Excessive Watering

Fluctuating or blurry vision

Sensitivity to light

Eye fatigue during screen use

Difficulty wearing contact lenses comfortably

Because dry eye has several possible causes, effective treatment starts with understanding what is happening at the surface of your eyes and along the eyelids.
